Camping Trip Number Two: Part Two

Breakfast. We woke up around 9:00. For a good twenty minutes, Jerry got the morning love stare from Junior and me. When the morning woods settled down, we got out of the tent. I’m not trying to be gross, just trying to keep the story authentic. Through the night, some of us had forgotten what Paul was wearing. The grandpa full-body thermal combination was just as funny in the morning light.

On Wednesday morning, I ate the best breakfast I’ve had in a while. Kielbasa, eggs, toast, and, best of all, thick bacon. Unlike most bears, Jon was able to hibernate through all the food scents. Other than eating, nothing much happened. It was just a good breakfast. We drove back to town to play a little football.

Football. Enough happened during football for its own post. But I can’t remember too well so I’ll sum it up here. The first two games were split, and the third was won 10-9 after Harvey fumbled on a game winning run. Jon got the MVP cup, bringing it back to its Oak Harbor home, but keeping it in Abarientos possession. Lacey pissed off Garsha. Chris played like Ray Lewis. Dat Dude was our Bus. Everyone had a shirt torn. Harvey caught a million passes. We showered, picked up a few things, and headed back to the wilderness.

Fajitas. Junior’s girlfriend, Jerry’s mom, marinated the Carne Asada and the giant flank steak. We just did the cooking. Jerry flipped while I sliced. Everyone else toasted and put vegetables on their tortillas. With everything together, we had awesome fajitas. There’s not much else to describe. Oh, and Matt was there and he purchased an issue of Highlights for Children for us to read.

Campfire: Resurrection. We never did hike to the bridge. I’m pretty sure our legs wouldn’t hold up all the way, and we still only had two flashlights. Instead, we roasted s’mores again. Matt set up our graham crackers with chocolate while I roasted marshmallows. We just talked, ate, and burned sticks again. There was no Taboo battle this time, but it was fun all the same. Oh, and Junior fell backwards in his chair. It wouldn’t be the end to his bad luck.

Change Clothes. I smashed Junior’s head with the Civic door while he was changing. My bad. I am incredibly sorry for doing that. Apparently, Paul was comfortable with the previous night’s outfit and wore it again, sans the boots.

Sleeping, or Trying to. Curt brought his laptop so that we could watch Dave Chappelle: For What it’s Worth. I passed out pretty fast, even though I really wanted to watch. In the middle of the night, I woke up to some commotion outside. I asked Full Stack Jack what was up.

I found out it was 4:00 in the morning, and Junior got sick during the night and needed to get home. He called his mom up for a ride home. She came by but he was taking too long to get ready so she thought he wasn’t coming home anymore. Without a ride, Junior had changed and was already running home.

I bet some of you believed it too.

Morning Meal and Set Down. Matt gave Junior the ride home during the night, so only six of us woke up when the alarm sounded at 7:30. Jerry manned up and got the grill ready while the other guys hit the snooze button. I was on my count to three to get up and help him out, but I decided to rest my eyes for a bit more. That meant snooze button for me as well.

An hour later, bratwursts were ready for us to grill. Jerry let an egg boil directly in the firewood and it exploded when he tried to move it. We cooked toast and ate a few tortillas. He had to leave for his appointment, so only four of us were left until Chris came back.

Setting up was boring, so I can’t really imagine how exciting reading about it would be. We threw trash away and tore down the tarp. We took the rods out of the tent and were left with one of the hardest puzzles known to mankind. Tent manufacturers should really make the bags just a tad bit larger.

Back home, I showered and put my things away. It was a really fun camping trip. Again, we had the time of our lives doing nothing. I can’t wait for next year’s trips. Two days was nice, and with enough practice we might be able to handle camping off the island.
