Paul and I played Hyper Street Fighter while Chris and Harvey hit the tables at the Poker Room. After his Ken jump kicked my Zangief to death, we agreed on a first-to-ten series.
Trash was spoken, and it was pretty even up to about six matches in. He was up 2-4, then I won with two consecutive perfects to reach a 3-4 score. At 5-5, some switch went off and so did Paul. Down 5-9, I switched from Super Turbo to Normal Guile and guaranteed five straight wins for the victory. The first win was an easy two rounds. The next two were three rounders with me taking the second and third rounds. At 8-9, Guile’s stage came up, and Paul again took me out of the first round. Only a few hits from death, Guile and I were staring right at a disappointing defeat. Using sonic booms and crouching low kicks, I managed to trap Paul in the corner and survive another round. At 9-9, my hands were shaking, but I knew I had the momentum. Paul didn’t stand a chance. Two rounds later, the W was mine.
Ok, so the series written out is pretty boring now that I am re-reading what I wrote. It was more intense than it sounds. “You had to be there” is the worst cop-out possible, but I guess you really did. Maybe you actually had to be Paul or me, because Chris and Harvey didn’t seem to care much either. Oh well, I needed to write it down for personal reference. And I know Paul will read this so this makes for bonus rub-it-in points. I’m no cheater! And I don’t have the $20 strategy guide either.
