US Open

Nearly four years have passed since they stepped on the court together, but that changed today. However, they weren’t teammates this time around. A battle of epic proportions took place between the most electric doubles pair in the history of tennis–Oak Harbor JV tennis. Yes, earlier today, Junior and I took part in The Greatest Match Ever Played. By Not The Greatest Players Ever.

Combined, Junior and I hit about 4% of our first serves in. I wish I was exaggerating. Paul, circa 1994, could run faster than our second serves. Overhead slams? Dinked into the net. Well placed shots? Not purposely. Homeruns over the fence? That we can give you.

I wondered what it would be like to play one of the greats of tennis. Unfortunately, I still don’t know. But I do know what it’s like to play against someone with a mythical vertical.
