“When you compare it to today’s standards of what hip-hop is… don’t even call it that, ‘cos that’s, like, an insult. “Today’s hip-hop is just angry, negative music that just makes black people look bad.”
The unfortunate part is that people are mistaking the Black Eyed Peas for hip-hop in the first place.
Enough of that. The more important matter is my recent TV addiction. Summer free time, moving into a new place with Dan, and digital cable (someday I’ll be able to text and that’s when I’ll know that the Future is Now) all amount to me sitting on this couch way too much. So I decided to write about it.
Before summer I was watching a solid amount of Discovery Channel and I tried to keep that up after moving. But it took me a month to realize the Discovery HD channel pretty much repeats the same seven shows all week and has little to do with regular Discovery programming.
I wish I could say I watch Sportscenter (Which is pretty much Baseball Tonight this time of year. Top Plays: catch, catch, catch, homerun, catch, catch), UFC, Big Trucks, and the Rifle Shooting championships all day long, but the manliness level of my daily dosage of the tube is way way down. So here are the top 5 shows of my summer rotation:
- Good Eats
I don’t think I’d watch any other show over this. I just watched an episode about water. Alton Brown didn’t even cook anything. It was riveting.
- Gilmore Girls Reruns
I can’t stand the current state of the show, but ABC family has been airing two episodes a day from Seasons 2 and 3. Just like last summer. It’s awesome, but it’s also nearing the end of the episodes I’m interested in so that’s two hours back in my life.
- Behind the Bash
I rarely ever catch it on, but I have to support my girl Giada somehow. Not going to her book signing is my biggest mistake since showing my brother no NFL2k1 mercy. I can’t support Everyday Italian fully because she isn’t using enough meat in her dishes, but I do support her dressing up and checking out parties with semi-celebrities.
- Kyle XY
My brother raved and raved about this show so I decided to watch it. That was a lie. I happened to be home watching TV the night it premiered and I stumbled upon it flicking between ESPN and SpikeTV. It’s a good show! Please believe me.
- The Suite Life of Zach and Cody
It’s a pretty bad show, but if you watch a bad show enough there’s a chance you’ll get into it. My girl Brenda Song holds it down. She gets an all time pass for appearing with Katsumoto’s son in the Disney Channel Original Movie Homecoming Warrior. One day last month Homecoming Warrior was on the Disney Channel at the same time as the Last Samurai on AMC. This was like the planets aligning.
And that’s that. Speaking of AMC, I think Jurassic Park was the movie of the month for June. It’s gone now, which is probably good for my TV diet because I was probably watching it three times a week.
Try and catch Sportscenter tonight or tomorrow morning to see Diana Taurasi’s dunk attempt at the WNBA All-Star game
