An update. Mostly about movies.

The Flyboys section is a little over a week old, but I think it’s still relevant. For whatever reason, I may be updating regularly on Wednesday. Somewhat. Actually, I don’t give you my word or anything but it’s a possibility. I haven’t used my camera in a long time and I sort of stopped using the SDA camera. That’s going to change. Hopefully. All it takes is two pictures a day for a weekly camera-phone post and I think they’re pretty fun to do. You know what’s probably not fun? Reading about how fun I think it is to make camera-phone entries.

Flyboys

My brother will be quick to remind you that Top Gun wasn’t critically acclaimed at release. Flyboys has nothing on Top Gun, but I’d say it’s worth a matinee ticket. I imagine the dogfight scenes are better on a big screen. It’s pretty hard to distinguish who gets shot down since all the planes are the same and some of the actors look the same with goggles on. Maybe that’s intentional to represent the deep emotions of people of that era who couldn’t tell who has died until after the surviving planes land. Probably not though.

Summer is over

School started today. It’s always great the night before the new quarter (multiply that by say… 3x for the new year) when you think “man it’s a new slate, time to study harder and dominate!” Then the first day goes on and you remember why break was so great–there’s no school. This quarter I’m taking two EE classes (341 & 233) and course on Matlab programming. Earlier today I said to myself, “it’s a new slate, time to study harder and dominate!” There are still a few hours left in the day but now I wish I took a few more naps and watched a little more TV in the summer (to add to what was a pretty bum-ful summer [bum + summer = bummer which is far more negative than what it’s actually describing]).

Some more movies

I watched Fight Club this week. This was only my second viewing and I was surprised at how different the movie is knowing that Ed and Brad are the same person. If you didn’t know that, then I apologize for spoiling a movie released in 1999. P.S. Bruce Willis is dead that’s why Haley can see him.

Speaking of The Sixth Sense, there’s a building on campus that has a hallway and staircase exactly like the one in the movie where the lynching ghosts are. Good thing The Ring came out so that I don’t ever think about how scary The Sixth Sense was. I remember watching it alone in the dark, which doesn’t sound like me and might explain why I’d never do that sort of thing. If I watched The Ring alone in the dark, I pretty much wouldn’t be typing this. Apparently, it’s nearly a coin flip.

And speaking of Haley Joel Osment (run-on). Well, I was going to make some sort of montage but this computer has no Photoshop so I’ll just have to use links. Puberty Battle of the Century! I’m low on ideas. Ultimate Puberty Challenge. That’s even stupider. Anyway here you go:
Haley Joel Osment Vs. Jonathan Lipnicki. I don’t know what the challenge is, but there clearly aren’t any winners.

I also watched Thank You For Smoking this week. Real good. You won’t be holding your stomach laughing, but it’s not meant to do that anyway. If you liked the trailer, you’ll like the movie. While reading some rumor about Sly being cast as the lead in Predator 3, I found out that Alien vs. Predator 2 is in production. I’ve got to say I’m really happy to hear about that. I’d say that I want to see AvP2 do the franchise justice after the failure of AvP1, but AvP1 was 110% awesome so I’d be lying to myself.
