All-Star Weekend

Celebrity Game

Terrible. I think they scored a combined 6 points in the third quarter. Bobby Flay pulled one of the sickest pump fakes ever. Unfortunately, he injured Reggie Bush’s ankle in the process. Can you imagine how amped up Bow Wow is the night before these games? Does he pull out the Better Basketball DVDs (highly recommended) two weeks early and practice defensive slides? Anyway, all that really matters about today is that Pippen (2nd only to Divac to me) is trying to come back. Charles Barkley’s comments were pretty entertaining. Just fast forward a bit on the video on this page.

Not a good idea. Not a good idea at all.

[Update: I was gonna make separate posts but I’ll just add to the end of this one.]

Saturday

Every year, even the bad years, you can expect to see at least a few really exciting dunks. Not really the case this time, because the only one that really sticks out is Dwight Howard’s sticker dunk: “Twelve and a half feet is very high.” It’s one of the first columns by Henry Abbott, the Truehoop guy that recently got hired by ESPN. My thoughts on All-Star Saturday: underwhelming. It was better than All-Star Friday, but that’s like when people say Tokyo drift was better than 2F2F. Barkley destroyed Bavetta (did you see his knee dripping blood after his dive?). Gilbert hit a few one-handers from NBA range, which is pretty amazing to me considering how hard Marvin and I were trying to hit those this morning. The best thing I watched today was that TNT special about NBA in-game dunks that came on before the All-Star coverage. Pippen looked to be in pretty good shape though.
