My dad’s thoughts on Dallas/Golden State

My parents came up yesterday for dinner since I’m expected to burn the apartment down with Dan in San Diego. The NBA Playoffs came up and here’s what he had to say about the Warriors:

“It’s like the cock fights back in Baguio. There was one cock that dominated the others. Just killed all the others. Bad. Except for one breed that it could never beat. There’s a word my friends used in the Philippines, but anyway, that’s the Warriors.”

He explained why I was born in Oakland even though we didn’t live there: “Because I wanted my son to be a G.” Not really, it’s 100 times more mundane. Then he reminisced about going to a game in Oakland in ’88. But it reminded me of Bill Simmons a little because my dad only went hoping to see Larry Bird beat the hell out of Golden State. So I asked if the Celtics actually ended up winning and he said, “Of course. They had Larry Bird.” In case you were wondering, he’s rooting for the Suns in the West and the Cavs in the East.
