Monthly Archives: January 2008
Just like last week’s Tom Brady post, I’ve scoured the New York Times archive for articles about Eli Manning. Here’s a soft article about Eli being raised as a Manning. Here’s an article preceding the 2003 season highlighting Eli’s Heisman … Continue reading
Stardust
I saw this in San Diego at the beginning of August. I’m backtracking and posting reviews of movies I saw in theaters but didn’t get around to writing about. Stardust is similar to Princess Bride, just without Andre the Giant. … Continue reading
Dolph Lundgren’s Wikipedia entry: “A native of Stockholm, Dolph Lundgren is a graduate of the Royal Institute of Technology. He has a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney (1982), and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to … Continue reading
Have you ever been sitting around in your room wondering what life would be like if there were a video with MC Hammer, Neon Deion, J.C.V.D., and a juiced Jose Canseco lookalike all in one? Wonder no more, your life … Continue reading
Vader Sessions. Someone took Star Wars scenes and replaced Vader’s voice with James Earl Jones audio clips from other movies. Nearly ten minutes but it’s all good stuff.
Victory and Ruins. A bunch of Seattle Times features dedicated to looking back at the 2000 UW football season.
LaDainian Tomlinson McFarlane figure. Just like the AFC Championship game! (From Bill Simmons’s links.) Here’s a quote from the Toys ‘R’ Us comments: I THINK IT’S PERFECT. IF I PUT A RIVERS DOLL NEXT TO IT, WILL IT GET UP … Continue reading
Sheed pregame dance.
Ghost girl & car crash. Video of basically the white lady urban legend. Drivers pick up a hitchhiker, they drive down a little, the person says hey drop me off there that’s where the accident happened, I happen to be … Continue reading
Rambo
Very entertaining. You might have heard that it’s really violent. It’s really violent. Rambo kills more people than the Cloverfield monster. The dialog isn’t great, but I don’t think anyone was expecting that. It easily maxes out a 10/10 on … Continue reading
Juno
Good movie not a great comedy, if you expect a comedy to make you laugh throughout. I smiled a lot, but nothing really had me in fits. But I might not be the best one to trust on this one, … Continue reading
Bird poops in news reporter’s mouth. My class readings say that link titles should be as descriptive as possible. That link title says it all. Best thing I’ve seen all week.
Freaks and Geeks
I finally finished Freaks and Geeks. Add me to the group of people sad about it being only one season long. It’s produced by Judd Apatow, the same guy behind 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Superbad. And every actor in … Continue reading
Pot Roast
Made a pot roast tonight. Used the recipe from one of the Good Eats episodes. Or I guess not so much. I used salt, pepper, onions, and garlic. Didn’t have any of the vinegar, tomato juice, or cumin. I did … Continue reading
Scanner Press
Went on a field trip with my print production class to Scanner, a print press place. To sum it up, there was a bunch of expensive, industrial equipment, and half of the stuff just isn’t used because the industry is mostly digital these days. For the most part, it was impressive (pun intended), but I’m still slightly disappointed because I was expecting something more like this video (featuring Jerry).
Watch the first twenty seconds of this recap of the Federer/Tipsarevic match at the Australian Open. Wait until after the first highlight, when they show a close up of Tipsarevic. What’s he doing? Only the greatest fist pump in history.
Stargate
I was watching it and then I looked at the time elapsed and only thirty minutes were left for everything to be resolved. This includes solving a hieroglyphic puzzle, tying up a romance, and, oh yeah, saving humanity from the … Continue reading
I searched the New York Times archive (it’s kind of a gold mine) for some Tom Brady articles. Here’s Tom Brady’s first start (interestingly enough, it was against Indianapolis), the tuck-rule game (or Snow Bowl/ Snow Job depending on who … Continue reading
Between these reviews and these reviews, I’m fairly convinced that I need to drag someone with me to Unicorn Crepes.
Oscar Nominations. It might just be for makeup, but Norbit’s on there. Javier Bardem needs to win. And I still need to see There Will Be Blood.
Oldie but goodie: An open letter from Eli Manning.
Just wanted to stick my thoughts in here before the games start. And I get to actually use my phone to post for once. Basically all I want is the Patriots to win. I’ll be happy to see Patriots/Packers or … Continue reading
Cloverfield
I liked it. I tried not to buy into the hype, but I watched it on opening night so I guess they got me. With movies like this where the previews aren’t very revealing, I try to watch them as … Continue reading
Roy Hibbert’s game winning 3-pointer vs. UCONN. And here’s some Blair Witch footage from the stands. Fast forward to about 4:00.
Quick thoughts about the MacBook Air
MacBook Air was announced today. This description I don’t like so much: “MacBook Air sets new standards for ultra-portable computing ÇƒÓ without the usual ultra-portable compromises.” Instead of the usual compromises, it’s got an unusual compromise—there’s no CD/DVD drive, but … Continue reading
Images from Mac Keynote. Wow!
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
I’m getting sort of repetitive in these movie reviews, but, again, really good movie. It’s kind of hard for me to believe it’s been nearly eight years since it was released. It sort of reminds me of Big Fish, which … Continue reading
An American Haunting
Fairly awful. Russ and I were browsing through On Demand to find a movie to watch. I remembered the trailer being alright so I chose An American Haunting. I still feel like I owe Russ two hours of his life … Continue reading
What’s left of the NFL playoffs
Earlier tonight I was headed south on I-5 and saw the 12th man flag at the top of the Space Needle. Sort of heartbreaking, but I imagine my dad and a few of my friends are taking it slightly harder. … Continue reading
Norm MacDonald on Late Night with Conan O’ Brian. Fast forward to about 3:30 and watch till the end. (Via Bill Simmons.) On another note, if you enjoy reading his columns, make sure to listen to his Podcasts. Once you … Continue reading
The Orphanage
Do make sure to see this while it’s still showing in theaters. It’s in Spanish-Spanish, so it’s subtitled. I think subtitles might help with a horror movie, because you tend to focus a little harder so you don’t miss anything. … Continue reading
Christmas Party 1
I tried using my fisheye lens again. I’m starting to like it more and more. I’m improving with the manual focus, but I’m still nowhere close to good. Only like 1 shot in 20 is really sharp, but it sure feels good when it happens. It seems to work well for parties. The pictures were very warm to begin with because I had the wrong white balance about half the time. I don’t know if this is much of an improvement, but I tried.
No Country for Old Men
Really good. Creates tension better than any horror movie of at least the last three years. These guys can act. As far as I remember, there’s no background music, which was kind of interesting. There’s not too much to say … Continue reading
Remembering 2007
Last year I got sidetracked in my 2006 post and promised to finish it. But I never did. This time, I think I’ll go more along the lines of my 2004 post. Best Good Time: Weekend in San Diego. It … Continue reading
Alien vs. Predator: Requiem
This is a terrible movie. I didn’t think they could make a sequel worse than the first, but they gave 110% and did it. It’s been turned into a bad slasher. From the previews, it sort of seems like everything … Continue reading
I’m back
I probably should have said I’d be on hiatus before not posting for a month, but I honestly thought I’d be updating throughout winter break. Now, I plan to have regular updates, but I’ve said that many times before. This … Continue reading
