My iPod Nano broke this week. Kind of bummed out, but it had a good run. It seemed out of nowhere, I didn’t handle it any differently. I took it out to change a song and I was greeted with abstract art. Music was still coming out of it though, so I figured it’d be fine as long as I made a good single playlist and get it to play that. That’d get me through at least the end of the quarter. It wouldn’t take Professor X to get it to play ‘all songs’ songs without a screen, so I tried turning it off and on to get to the top menu. The ‘off’ part worked fine, it’s the ‘on’ that isn’t working.
The plus side is that I get to replace it with something newer. The negative part of that is the $200 it’d cost for an 8GB Nano. I might just get a $50 shuffle. 1GB seems adequate for me. A few months ago I re-organized my iTunes library and didn’t get around to making a new playlist for my iPod, so I only actually had about 250 songs anyway. The problem with the shuffle is that I finally started listening to podcasts within the last few months, and it seems like that’d be difficult to handle without a screen.
I’ve also been looking at a new phone to take over my MDA. After sleeping on it for a few nights, I decided it wasn’t time yet. But now I’m thinking maybe it’s a sign. But other than the iPhone, I haven’t really heard outstanding things about listening to music with your phone. Of course, I haven’t exactly been researching that sort of thing. Still, I’d rather not carry my phone around during workouts. And I may as well just get a headphone adapter for my MDA, it’d save me a few hundred bucks. It’s back to sleeping on it.
Wednesday night I had this dream where I was staring at a field with some friends. We were looking at some kind of weird sunset. I think this was a combination of the lunar eclipse and me reading Red Mars. What I can’t figure out is what came next. We decided to go to our friend’s house across the field, so we start walking. Then this shirtless hillbilly in overalls comes out and starts blasting with a shotgun. We make it to the house, and we tell our friend about what happened and he asks why we didn’t just use the sidewalk instead of the field.
Then Thursday night I have another dream where I’m walking down a hallway with a friend (all the friends in these dreams are the weird ones where you don’t really recognize them but you just know in the dream that they’re your friends). Out of nowhere, the hillbilly busts through the wall and chainsaws my friend. I figure it’s about time for me to book it, so I start sprinting down the hallway. Then I blackout, and I’m back with my friend about 5 seconds before the hillbilly busts through the wall and chainsaws my friend again. Over and over until I wake up.
