I just wanted to check-in before I head to bed. In the next week or so I should be updating more frequently, but I always say that. I’m getting into my routines and that “next week or so” estimate is when I figure I’ll find a place in my dayrunner to update. Not that I’m swamped by any means. Here’s a quick heads up of what’s happening right now.
I’m doing a co-op with IBM at their Silicon Valley Laboratory to fulfill the internship requirement for Technical Communication. I didn’t drop out, I’m essentially skipping Spring/Summer quarter, but Summer is optional so it’s basically just one quarter I’m missing out on.
As far as talking about my actual work, it’s nothing super secret but I don’t really want to accidentally break the IBM blogging policy so I probably won’t delve deep about what I’m doing. Plus I don’t really know what I’m doing yet. Right now I’m staying with my cousin and my godparents, but I’ll be moving into a room in a townhouse this weekend with a French guy and a German guy. It’ll be like Real World except it’s the real world.
There’s a trail that goes around the lab called the parcourse. It’s two miles and fairly scenic as far as I can tell. I was thinking about running it so I asked my coworkers during lunch if there was anything to worry about. I expected something like, “Your shoes will get pretty dusty and don’t jump any fences.” But he says, “Oh nothing really. Rattlesnakes but that’s it.”
No thanks! Then I tell my manager that story and she says, “Oh yeah and there’s wild boar and once in a while a bull might be nearby but not too close so don’t worry.”
That sounded a little intense for my second week, so I decided to run some lines on the basketball court. I finished a set and while catching my breath everything got dark, then the streetlight turned and focused a spotlight on me and this gray/green sign materialized above my head: “ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: 5G – Run real slow.” I need to get back on that LL Cool J plan pronto.
