If it looks like it’s in the middle of nowhere, that’s because it is. Relatively. That’s basically the southernmost part of San Jose. Google, Apple, Meebo, and a whole lot of startups are probably 20-30 minutes north.
In unrelated news, I went to Santana Row tonight with my roommates (one of their friends had a birthday). Downtown San Jose is supposedly dead at night, so everyone goes to Santana Row. It’s basically Bellevue, except faker and with (allegedly) richer people. Some people describe it as someone pulling a street off of Hollywood and dropping it in San Jose. There were a bunch of Benzes, a few Porsches, and I saw one Lamborghini. That was hard to miss because (other than that it was a Lamborghini) it was bright orange and parked directly in front of a club. Which makes me wonder how early the owner got there for the rock star parking spot. And then I imagine the guy locking his door with the remote without turning to look back and walking into an empty club, completely pleased with himself and nodding the whole time.
What separated it from Seattle and Bellevue (and this actually reminded me of Vegas a little) is that a bunch of the non-restaurant, non-bar food places (cafes, ice cream shops, bistros, etc.) were open late and pretty full. And there’s lots of apparently free space where benches are set up and those were packed also. And I think a hotel is right there so there were a lot of tourists (I probably still count as one myself). Kind of a lively atmosphere. I just used a ton of parentheses.
