James White can still dunk.¨Ü He won the NBDL dunk contest this weekend.¨Ü Nothing he hasn’t done in a previous contest, but I enjoyed the Will Conroy cameo.¨Ü If James White gets back in the NBA, manages to get in a dunk contest, and hits on that between the legs free throw dunk, Kenny’s head will explode.¨Ü Major if.¨Ü This year was nowhere close to that stupid year with the “wheel of dunks”, but it was definitely one of the more disappointing NBA dunk contests.¨Ü There were some good dunks but there was nothing that wasn’t mostly done before (except I guess the 11′ or 12′ foot rim, but Dwight made it look too easy after the seven-minute setup).¨Ü None of them seem like they’ll be memorable looking back a few years from now.¨Ü Kind of like the 2005 contest, where the Birdman debacle became the most lasting memory.
Rudy’s second dunk was real nice if you just see the highlights and didn’t see all his attempts.¨Ü I’m surprised they didn’t show his dunk on Howard fromt he Gold Medal game.¨Ü I really like Kenny Smith in the studio for NBA on TNT, but I can’t stand his matter-of-fact commentary during the dunk contests anymore.¨Ü It didn’t help that the Kenny Smith “It’s over!” soundbite was used approximately 100 times on the dunk theatrics show TNT put on before All-Star Saturday Night. I’m being real negative right now.¨Ü Nate won and got them on his first attempts, so I definitely can’t complain about that.
