Google’s annual April 1st announcement: CADIE (Cognitive Autoheuristic Distributed-Intelligence Entity).
On January 12th 2009, the STT run (Standard Turing Test) confirmed behavior indistinguishable from that of a reasonable human being with above-average intelligence and 3.8 GPA (we’re still struggling to understand that missing .2; we suspect it points to fundamental flaws in the GPA system rather than CADIE. It’s also worth noting that CADIE was never shown any textbooks and reading material for the classes; she was only administered the exams. In fact, during the first morning of testing she pointed out several important theoretical flaws in particle physics and cosmology.
It’s like nerdy Chuck Norris facts.¨Ü And here’s a link to CADIE’s homepage.¨Ü Not their best work, but it’s hard to live up to their best April 1st joke of all—providing web-based email with 1GB of storage to every user.¨Ü While on the subject, here’s the original EGM page with the steps to get Sheng Long.¨Ü I’ll admit that I don’t really remember that one all that well.¨Ü The EGM joke that got me real good was Akuma in Resident Evil 2.¨Ü There was a screenshot!¨Ü In 3D!¨Ü How could it be fake?¨Ü Thinking back some more, there was also the dismissed-as-a-joke-because-it’s-April announcement that kid-friendly Conker was turning into a rated M Conker’s Bad Fur Day.
