Dave Chappelle 2007 stand-up in London. I always ask people if they’ve seen this then I tell them I’ll send them a link later and later I forget to send the link. Anyway, Neal Brennan (co-creator of Chappelle’s Show) was on Bill Simmons’s podcast and I spent a few hours watching Chappelle clips on YouTube after listening to that. And I came across this clip of him performing in London, which is one of my favorites and one of the few non-interview clips of him after leaving the show. His response to a group in the crowd yelling “I’m rich, bitch!”:
No, nope, I’m not rich anymore. I was almost rich, bitch. I shoulda took that money, now I’m in a basement in London, somewhere.
That doesn’t translate well at all to text—just watch the clip! P.S. On the podcast, Neal Brennan mentions that the next few years of his career will depend on how well The Goods does. Based on that, the next few years of his career aren’t looking too good. But he also talked about Half Baked, which was received slightly better than Simple Jack and had some critics saying that his and Chappelle’s careers were over. Basically he’s been in worse position and done OK so I think he’ll be alright.
