Behold, video in HTML5. Or not (if you’re not on Firefox 3.5, Safari, or Chrome). I read through the Dive into HTML5 video guide, converted the D90 .avi to .ogv and .mp4 files, checked it out in Chrome and Safari and then checked it in Firefox last because everything always seems to work there so it wouldn’t be a problem.
Then I spent a couple hours actually making it work in Firefox. A quick Google search with “ogv” “html5” and “firefox” in some combination revealed that sometimes there are issues with the .ogv extension. So I twiddled with the .htaccess file, checked with my webhost about MIME types, and re-encoded a few times. Then I finally saw that I was putting the video markup in WordPress with line breaks and WordPress was inserting paragraph tags (like it should) after each line and screwing things up. Awesome.
