Things I did in February

I think I should be able to catch up on these posts this week or next. February’s a short month, but this is a long post. Starting with a picture of a bunch of cardboard. I got my first credit card (yes, really) and went nuts on Amazon. I had this cardboard sitting in my living room for a few weeks. This post is really starting with a bang.

What looks like a witch’s cauldron is actually one of my first purchases—a slow cooker. And the first thing I made was braised short ribs. I really wish I took a more appetizing picture of this because it tasted pretty good.

Me and Chris thought it’d be hilarious to send pictures of us having fun without Jason and email the pictures to him. As if Jason preferred to stay on a boat and not see land for four months.

I forget what this was called, but it was from Extraordinary Desserts. And it tasted awesome. Basically some kind of berry mix and whipped cream sandwiched between pastries. Actually I think it was probably called a berry tart or something along those lines.

Next are a couple of burgers from Burger Lounge, which I’d been meaning to try for a while. Really juicy patty so it was messy but pretty good. Also pictured is Kristie’s elbow in position to take a picture of her burger. This weekend is currently in the lead this year for most consecutive food comas.

At the top of Cowles Mountain, the highest point in San Diego. I’m looking at this picture now and it’s a little hard to tell what’s going on. And the sun looks like a giant explosion.

I went to Memphis for work. Here’s the reuben I had at the airport. On planes, I usually get ginger ale.

On the left are the inputs for the hotel TV. HDMI and an ethernet port, I was just missing an Xbox. This was my first time staying in a hotel by myself. And my first time being further east than Las Vegas. I tried to order takeout Chinese and checked the menu out online and actually started to get a little excited (long day of travel). I got my order ready then called and found out they don’t deliver downtown. Instead I got some takeout wings from a nearby bar. Can’t really add much else to make this night sound any lonelier. Oh that’s right, this was Valentine’s Day!

I love Egg McMuffins. This McDonald’s had a sign that said only one refill please. Never in my life have I seen that. That was the first McDonald’s sign that affected my life this month.

For reasons that I’ll never know, my coworkers agreed that we should go to a Brazilian BBQ place for dinner. It was the only time I was frustrated about eating at a Brazilian BBQ. If you visit Memphis, you should probably eat Memphis BBQ. I almost left without eating any but the airport pulled through. They have a bunch of BBQ spots and I ate at Interstate BBQ.

The waitress tried to convince me that I probably don’t want to order a full rack of ribs. I guess the implication was that it was too much food for me and I’d feel awful afterwards. After finishing the full rack and feeling awful afterwards, I looked at a directory and saw that the airport also had a couple of Corky’s. I walked to one and ate ordered a rack to-go. Pau thinks I made a great decision.

With all the connections, I was on six different planes in a week. Easily the flight I was most excited for was the trip back to Seattle. I arrived past midnight, but the next morning me and Tubo went to Yummy Teriyaki. Probably my favorite teriyaki spot. And I’ve mentioned it before, but teriyaki’s the food I miss most in Seattle.

Played some shuffleboard before heading to HG Lodge. Good times.

I miss Chiang’s a whole lot also. Before heading to the airport my friends talked about halo-halo and how the giant one at Chowking is way too big. It was.

On the left is me excited to head out for snowboarding. On the right is me after snowboarding, in some video rental place on the mountain (with a ton of VHS tapes still on the shelves) wondering how the hell me and my coworkers are getting home because…

IMG00931-20110225-0554.jpgIMG00934-20110225-1941.jpg

…this happened. I don’t want to get too crazy on details, but around 2pm we were all talking about having pho in our mouths probably around 6pm. When 6pm came around my coworker was trying to figure out how many miles his insurance would pay for towing. At 9pm we finally climbed into a tow truck and were heading to a collision repair shop next to Ontario Airport so we could rent a car. Around 10:45pm we got to the collision repair shop and found out that most car rental places at Ontario close at 11pm and that the open ones are out of cars…

…at 1130pm I stepped in basically a river next to the curb (of all the nights for it to be pouring in southern California) and had to dry those off. Then Wally came and saved us around 1am. We all stayed in really good spirits though, pretty much because losing a radiator is way better than flying off a cliff.

I went with Chad and Angelo to see the Clippers play the Celtics. We stopped at Mr. Lee’s BBQ House. Ten bucks to get stupid full. Then we watched Blake Griffin do this. All we wanted was to see an oop to Blake and he delivered pretty quick. And it only made it to number 4 on this countdown of Blake dunks from February. Just February.

I had to use the bathroom really really bad and decided to chose McDonald’s for this. Went in, bought a yogurt parfait, then saw the worst sign ever. Never been less happy to see Comic Sans.

Next up (spoiler alert): March!
