I didn’t intend to leave that cryptic emo post up for so long. I planned to bury it under a post about meals from 2011 but then I had to leave the apartment and never finished writing that. Now it’s a little too late to post any recap of 2011. So here’s some quick bullet point thoughts about 2012.
- Went to Clippers games against the Heat and against the Lakers. There’s palpable excitement for every Clippers fast break. Blake Griffin missed some pretty insane dunk attempts over multiple defenders. I hope I’m there when he connects on one.
People hate LeBron and the boos rained down, then he’d do something amazing and the oohs came down. (I apologize if you’re cringing, the rhyme was unintentional.) I imagine that’s how it goes around the country. I was going to write more about experiencing these things in person, but Jay Caspian Kang covered both games on Grantland. Though I disagreed with this line:
Again, the Lakers contingent gets much louder than their Clipper counterparts. They even boo the Clipper trampoline dunk team.
Everyone boo’d the trampoline dunk team that night. They were like 6 for 13.
Also, I ordered a Lob City shirt after Blake Griffin coined the phrase but before he decided to separate himself from the nickname after CP3 said he hated it. Half court set city it is.
Other enjoyable things: Kobe going 1 on 1 and Chris Paul dribbling in and out of traffic.
Non-enjoyable things: Blake Griffin’s turnaround jumper, Blake Griffin’s step-back jumper. The excitement is not palpable.
- Did a quick trip to Vegas for Bryanth’s birthday. Finally tried out the 24 hour buffet pass. Basically it’s $45 and the timer starts and you get access to six buffets. But none are open late night. And the Yelp reviews are bad for three of them.
There’s the argument that one buffet trip is enough. But the idea is that instead of stuffing ourselves we’d just go for smaller meals more often. At our first meal we stuffed ourselves stupid. Idea failure. Then we got food before going out to top ourselves off. Then we woke up and got food to try breakfast out before going back to sleep. Then we had to speed walk to get to the buffet before our passes expired. One buffet’s enough.
And that’s it. It’s been a fun three weeks. We’ll see what the rest of the year has to bring. By the way, I loved seeing pictures of everyone playing in the snow in Seattle.
